HipHop Academy

WE BELONG HERE! explores the themes of identity, belonging and cultural respect within global hip-hop culture. The performance examines power structures, community and the issue of cultural appropriation – navigating the balance between exchange, consumption and appreciation. Over 100 children and young people from all levels of the Hip Hop Academy bring the diversity of hip-hop culture onto the stage: breaking, rap, singing, hip-hop dance and producing. Under the artistic direction of Franklyn (Slunch) Kakyire and the instructors of the HipHop Academy, an evening of expression, purpose, and collective energy comes to life.
