In 2013, new legislation was introduced in Russia against homosexual propaganda, a diverse range of artists were intimidated through the courts and many critical voices reacted with self-censorship. As a result, Marina Maraeva, lawyer and graduate of the School for Engaged Art (founded by Russian art collective Chto Delat), opened art venue INTIMNOJE MESTO in St. Petersburg. It is a laboratory in which the boundaries between collective and individual use, between the private and the public, are blurred. While smooth surfaces and boring perfection lead the way, INTIMNOJE MESTO focuses on the unfinished. Maraeva is travelling to Hamburg for NORDWIND with her INTIMNOJE MESTO together with some of the regular guests from the St. Petersburg original and will enrich the festival on three evenings with different artistic formats. The programme will be rounded off with concerts from Mary Ocher and Anna von Hausswolff.
