Back to Ali is a documentary dance solo by Hamburg choreographer Jenny Beyer. It focuses on the biography of her grandfather Walter “Ali” Beyer, a communist resistance fighter against National Socialism. The project combines personal memories with political research and explores how family stories can be conveyed artistically through the body. The piece deals with questions of heritage, memory culture, and the relevance of individual stories in the current social climate - in light of the rise of right-wing movements across Europe. The project is accompanied by open studio formats on memory, participation, and reflection and is being developed as part of »Shared Leadership in Dance.«
