THE CONCERT IS CANCELLED (UPDATE 29.7.18, 21:27) Due to a bereavement all upcoming concerts of John Maus are cancelled (details on Twitter / Ribbon Music HERE). Tickets for the show can be returned at the ticket office where they were purchased. Everyone who bought tickets through Kampnagel and whose contact details we have, was contacted again personally, and we informed the public via Kampnagel newsletter.

UPDATE 3.8. 20:01

We decided to program something completely different on this evening and will present Andreas Dorau and Socalled, two artists from the summer festival program, whose other shows are already sold out and who will now play an extra concert on August 16th (more information HERE on the concert page).

(Previous concert announcement: John Maus creates the pop sound of the future using the half-awake memories of yesterday’s music. The music of John Maus is often described as hypnagogic pop. Like his former band-mate and roommate Ariel Pink, he carries half-awake, lo-fi memories of forgotten genres out of the collective unconscious. After a six-year break during which he completed his doctorate in philosophy, the experimental pop-artist has now released a new album. In »Screen Memory,« Maus builds twisted gothic deconstructions out of baroque church music, synth sounds and his pathos-filled baritone voice, crafting a deep emotional resonance out of artificiality. With this conceptually rigorous balancing act, John Maus manages to create smart and damn great pop music. His intense physical performances make his rare live shows totally unique experiences. This is John Maus’ second ever concert in Hamburg, after his 2011 show in the Golden Pudel Club. Support comes from John Maus’ friend and popstar-not-popstar Nick Nicely with his project Forseeable Past and Hamburg based experimental-pop artist L Twills.)
