This year’s festival will once again end in karaoke euphoria – with pop songs and a symphony orchestra – to create the greatest of community experiences.
Like all recipes for success, this one is simple but reliably good: symphony orchestra + pop songs + karaoke = mass euphoria. Happiness is guaranteed to take over the stage and the audience. The perennial format – developed and moderated by former Summerfestival director Matthias von Hartz, – will be conducted by Jan Dvorak and works like this: The Junge Symphoniker Hamburg perform pop songs – whose lyrics will be shown on the big screen – and then a member of the audience is handed the microphone. Sing your heart out amid the strings, drums and horns on the stage – with songs ranging from Leonard Cohen to Madonna or Daft Punk – in a mixture of pop concert, party and political movement.
