In recent past, the social role and practice of folk dancing drastically changed in Germany. Due to social as well as cultural changes, but also its political instrumentalization in the 20th century, folk dancing ceased to be a part of daily life for most people quite some time ago. Regardless of this development, dancing in a group still offers enormous potential for interaction and the formulation of shared goals - a fact that this project seeks to explore further.
Based on the project HEUTE: volkstanzen, which took place last October at K3, Jenny Beyer, Antje Pfundtner, Gunnar Brandt-Sigurdsson, the K3 Residency-Choreographers of the 14/15 season and a group of interested dancers from Hamburg will be investigating at the K3 studios what strategies allow professionals and spectators to dance together and the function of such events. Whilst dance on stage remains for others to watch, in this project K3 invites its visitors to join in the dancing – only, of course, as much as they wish to do so.
During opening hours, visitors can discover dance and audio material and try it out for themselves or with others. Based on earlier presentation formats at K3, such as e.g. the Entropic Institute by deufert&plischke last year, the working space becomes a place of presentation and shared practice.
