A music theater project by the bands Khoi Khonnexion and Kante, about wandering folk tales, poetry and fairy tales in Namibia, South Africa and Germany.
The members of the band Khoi Khonnexion from Cape Town identify as decendants of the »first people«: The Khoi, who lived in what is now South Africa, and the Khoesan from Namibia to this day lead a political fight in the region after being murdered almost entirely during German and Dutch colonial rule. The band and the Namibian poetry artist Nesinado »Khoes« Namises have been active in this fight, artistically and politically, for many years, carrying out research on the lost culture of the Khoi and Khoesan and sharing their knowledge in workshops and performances. They produce their characteristic sound with bow instruments that they copied from notations of the Khoi. In a music-theater project with the Hamburg pop-art band Kante and with a team made up of, among others, Showcase Beat Le Mot cofounder Nikola Duric and Theatertreffen award-winning Anta Helena Recke, Khoi Khonnexion and Nesinado »Khoes« Namesis explore the subversive qualities of fairy tales, poetry and folk tales. Until today, they tell stories of the ghosts of German soldiers in the deserts of Namibia, as well as of liquid stones and of phone calls with ancestors. To spur re-enchantment in the world, the ventilation shafts, electrical outlets and speaker towers in K1 will be opened up, and the stories, suppressed dreams and the repressed past will flow out into our current era.
Audience discussion on Fri 24th August.
