Through a combination of musicality and virtuosity, Kid Koala alias Eric San has upgraded the turntable to a musical instrument. His artistic output includes several albums on Ninja Tunes, graphic novels, collaborations with bands like Gorillaz and Arcade Fire (Richard Reed Parry at Summerfestival here and here) and most recently his album »Music to Draw to: IO« (with singer Trixie Whitley). In 2014, his graphic-novel-based music theatre piece NUFONIA MUST FALL sold-out at the Summer Festival and has been showed over 60 times worldwide ever since. Before setting up a new theatrical piece at next year’s Summer Festival, Kid Koala now presents an art/music happening: In his SATELLITE TURNTABLE ORCHESTRA an audience is seated at stations equipped with a turntable, an effects box and a small crate of color-coded vinyl records. Through subtle colored lighting changes in the room, everyone is cued to play along. Using Kid Koala’s album »Music to Draw to: Satellite« (with Icelandic singer Emiliana Torrini) as a basis, the audience boards a theatrical spaceship into a new world of light and sound – accompanied by live visuals of puppeteer Karina Bleau and lead by turntable-conductor Kid Koala himself (who will also play one of his spectacular DJ sets at the festival’s closing party).
