Kiss me, Judas
KISS ME, JUDAS is a mini-musical with five performers that examines the figure of “Judas” in the collective imagination. Following on from the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar (1971), in which Judas plays a central role, it is transferred to the present day with new aesthetic and thematic references. At a time when ideals and values are being discarded for quick profit at the expense of others, the play sheds light on the dichotomy between Judas Iscariot and St Jude Thaddeus. While Judas Iscariot is considered a traitor, Judas Thaddeus is revered by the social outcasts in Mexico. Both figures are a symbol of the interplay between betrayal and redemption and reflect the dynamics of trust, betrayal and hope - themes that are particularly relevant in the current socio-political context of polarisation, mistrust and nihilism. KISS ME, JUDAS questions how these archetypes are used as cultural symbols and critically reflects on betrayal of values and capitalist exploitation. This project also explicitly rejects the instrumentalisation of the Judas figure for anti-Semitic purposes.
