Three sound sketches for the day after tomorrow demonstrate that the future of pop comes from club and is probably surreal.
In the last few years, the musician Kode9’s London Hyperdub label has become a synonym for the exciting expansion of club music to more experimental forms and pop. One of the label’s protagonists is the Berlin resident and Michigan native Laurel Halo, who has now released her third album on Hyperdub: »Dust« is a crazy collection of surreal songs in which multifarious styles such as UK bass, techno, ambient and folk meld into something new. Halo’s soft voice and the electronic textures, influenced by subbass and cut-up strategies, combine to a suggestive attraction on the highest digital level. Music that would not have been conceivable before 2017. But first, Esmark – the new project by Scheich in China and Nikolai von Sallwitz – will celebrate the release of its albums (label: Bureau B) »Māra I« and »Māra II«. They are darkly convoluted compositions that are primarily created on analogue synthesizers. The evening is completed by the Duo Fallbeil from Helena Hauff’s Return to Disorder label; they will perform one of their rare acid live sets in a cozy International Summer Festival version.
