Nobody conveys the subversive sexiness of noise as convincingly as no-wave diva Lydia Lunch.
Since her early days in the Lower East Side of the late 1970s and early ‘80s, musician, actress and novelist Lydia Lunch has been considered a no-wave icon and riot-grrrl pioneer. Over the course of her eventful career (which you can read about in her autobiography, »Paradoxia: A Predator’s Diary«) she created enduring works, alone or in collaboration with masterful noisemakers like Einstürzende Neubauten, Sonic Youth and Nick Cave. These works have lost none of their musical or political relevance in our »grab her by the pussy«-era. Lunch’s spoken-word album, »Conspiracy of Women« from 1990 was only recently re-released by clubmusic wunderkind Nicolas Jaar. Her most recent incarnation is called Big Sexy Noise and, with members James Johnston and Ian White from Gallon Drunk, is nothing less than an underground super-group. Their live shows include old songs as well as new, garage-rock influenced ones, which The Guardian has described as the »most joyfully bawdy music of her career.« After her most recent appearance at Kampnagel in 2015, this will be the third show here by this perpetually selfreinventing, politically conscious artist.
