Mabe Fratti blends experimental cello playing, rock, jazz, and feedback loops into an exhilarating pop sound. On her fourth solo album in five years, “Sentir Que No Sabes” (Unheard of Hope), the Guatemala-born, Mexico City-based musician pairs her delicate dream-pop vocals with drums, guitars, and cello riffs that urge listeners to “forget everything they know about stylistic boundaries in pop music” (Der Spiegel). From the grungy, Lenny Kravitz-inspired opener to the shimmering 80s pop track “Pantalla azul,” Fratti’s songs explore the unknown with curiosity – “abundantly melodic, constantly surprising, and unequivocally fantastic” (The Guardian). Opening the evening, Tomo Katsurada, co-founder of the legendary psych-rock band Kikagaku Moyo, presents ambient guitar and delicate cello compositions inspired by picture books, creating spiritual music equally compelling for indie kids and sonic explorers alike.
