With their compelling references to early post-punk, minimalistic New-Wave, places like Ratinger Hof and the memory of the aesthetic potential of the Kohl opposition, the group Messer have inspired a certain hype, and are deemed trailblazers for the revival of a brand of German language pop music that is both smart AND laid-back. For their latest project the five musicians from Hamburg and Münster are now dedicating themselves to the 1940s jazz trumpeter and scandalous surrealist author Boris Vian.
