With MEDEAS KINDER, director and head of the Wiener Festwochen, Milo Rau, dares to take a new look at the role of children in semi-documentary theatre. The starting point is a real criminal case: after a separation, a desperate mother decides to kill her children and take her own life - but she survives. Rau interweaves this modern tragedy with the classic Medea saga, the best-known case of relationship conflict and infanticide in Western literature. MEDEAS KINDER illuminates the tragic conflicts of the adult world from the perspective of children - a short history of theatre and a school of life that is as cruel as it is poetic.
