Monique Smith-McDowell
The Uprising
THE UPRISING is a powerful dance theatre production that transforms the stage into a site of rebellion, activism, and collective resistance. Performed by a team of FLINTA artists, the work confronts the evaluation, discrimination, and exclusion of these artists, challenging patriarchal structures and the male gaze. THE UPRISING deconstructs who is seen, who decides, and who is silenced, insisting on visibility on their own terms. Developed with an artistic audio description, Monique Smith-McDowell's new production is created by and for female, Black, queer and disabled perspectives, continuing her practice of centering marginalized bodies. THE UPRISING is not just a performance it is a protest in motion, a physical and emotional uprising that demands equality, accountability, and change.
For the performances, we offer a free pick-up and accompanying service for blind and visually impaired audience members upon request. Please contact us at least 3 days before the event by email at barrierefreiheit@kampnagel.de or by phone at the box office: +49 40 270 949-49.
