With the documentary film [ÒDIO] (German title: HASS), Italy’s leading performance collective Motus presents the next chapter of its Frankenstein cycle, following Frankenstein – A Love Story. Starting from Frankenstein’s creature – searching for love yet met only with exclusion and violence, until it turns to violence itself – the film investigates “the click”: the moment when love irreversibly flips into hatred, aggression and violence. [ÒDIO] is based on interviews with young people and different communities in Rome, Rimini, Hamburg and Ghent who are made into “Others” by society. [ÒDIO] asks: Who hates – and why? And what power relations and structures of domination are at work within hatred? [ÒDIO] opens a resonance space for our present, in which it is decided whether living together breaks apart under fear and defence – or whether new forms of trust can become possible.
