Muhammed Kaltuk / Company MEK
Same Love (Site Specific)
“Same Love” embarks on a dance-filled search for love and belonging, questioning social prejudices and norms.
The ensemble takes the audience on a choreographed journey of discovery through public space. The
performance celebrates the diversity of human experiences and makes the
political dimension of love visible. It shows not only how experiences
of love are painfully passed down from generation to generation, but
also how our understanding of love is shaped by upbringing and social
expectations. “Same Love” is more than a spectacular dance performance -
it is an emotional statement for acceptance, tolerance, and
empowerment.
Muhammed Kaltuk, born in Switzerland as the son of a conservative Turkish family, initially made a name for himself in the Swiss hip-hop scene. At the age of 22, he discovered theatre as a form of expression and at 25 he began dance training at the Higher School of Contemporary and Urban Stage Dance in Zurich. There, he combined his hip-hop background with other dance styles and developed a distinctive style that intertwines socially critical, political, and personal themes. In 2017, he founded the company MEK, which he continues to lead today. With it, Kaltuk has performed at renowned venues such as Tanzhaus Zurich, Lucerne Theater, Theater St. Gallen, Gauthier Dance, and the Ballet Theater Basel. Through his clear artistic stance and his ability to stay true to himself in different contexts, Kaltuk is considered one of the most innovative figures in the international dance scene. Starting season 2026/2027, he will become Artistic Director of the dance division at Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen.
