A man with keffiyeh, sunglasses and mustache is currently the most interesting pioneer in dance music at weddings and in clubs.
Omar Souleyman has become a living legend in Syria with appearances at celebrations of various religions and population groups, and the spreading of in the entire Arab world with hundreds of live tape recordings. His music is a concentrate of the various musical traditions of his native region, backed by hard, fast synth beats and Souleyman’s characteristic vocals. This world-incorporating-music soon lead to global party excesses with legendary performances from SXSW to the Nobel Prize Concert. After collaborations with Björk and Four Tet, Souleyman now again involves a premier league of advanced musicians and producers: »Bahdeni Nami«, his forthcoming album to be released in July 2015 on Monkeytown Records, includes collaborations with Modeselektor, Gilles Peterson and again Four Tet, who add to the music’s fundament of feisty keyboards, polyrhythmic beats, Saz tunes and vocal poetry. Despite world’s insistence to associate him with his home country’s unending war, Omar gives back nothing but Love. Expect an excessive summer festival opening party!
