Influenced by the American band The Residents and Dada’s artistic philosophy, Palais Schaumburg -- founded in 1981 – and its avant-garde dance music provided a kind of antithesis to the ironic schlager of the Neue Deutsche Welle. Palais Schaumburg’s talented but frequently (artistically) diverging members have a complicated history, which was fictionalized in band-member Timo Blunck’s novel »Hatten wir nicht mal Sex in den 80ern?« (Didn’t we have sex once in the ‘80s). In its first Hamburg concert since 2013, the band is performing with its original lineup -- Holger Hiller, Thomas Fehlmann, Timo Blunck and Ralf Hertwig – and an unchanged sense of urgency and artistic currency.
