Paul Poet is one of the leading directors of provocative political films in the German-speaking world. In his documentary, EMPIRE ME (which was screened at Kampnagel in 2012) he visited different micro states, floating garbage islands or concrete posts standing in the sea, which evade the forces of nation states. His latest film MY TALK WITH FLORENCE is a biographical documentary on Florence Burnier-Bauer, in which he tells the story of her dramatic life in the early 1980s, in Otto Mühl’s Friedrichshof commune in Burgenland. Rather than spiritual and physical liberation, she is met with authoritarian fascist structures, abuse, indignity and violence. Following in the cinematic tradition of Cinéma Verité, Poet directly and ruthlessly tells a story of emancipation and Florence’s hard fought journey to say no. With this event, which is part film screening, part live concert, Berlin’s master of intelligent electronica, beat activist and punk floor pioneer Alec Empire (Atari Teenage Riot) accentuates this brand new cinema piece in the style of his early solo classics.
