Over the course of two days, the Überjazz Festival presents genre-spanning music in four Kampnagel spaces: jazz, hip-hop, electronic, soul and other pop culture-moulding music categories blend together into new forms. Alongside big events, like the performance by the Cinematic Orchestra, this time the focus is on musicians who come from the place where the future of music is being forged, and where hip-hop and jazz have long since blended: Los Angeles. These include bassist Thundercat (Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington, among others), Grammy-winner and Kendrick Lamar-collaborator Terrace Martin and Ghostface Killah-producer Adrian Younge. The Überjazz Festival reaches into spiritual outer space thanks to Idris Ackamoor and his band Pyramids, which was founded in 1972, as well as Ninja Tune-label debutante, tabla-player and percussionist Sarathy Korwar. GoGo Penguin are returning to Hamburg for their third appearance at the Überjazz Festival. And Meute, Andi Otto & Love Songs, as well as Rocket Man, prove that even Hamburg bands can create buzz in this sophisticated context.
