Past dates

Saturday

8/10/13

9:00 PM

Yoko Ono and Thurston Moore, two of the most important living performers in the experimental / avant garde tradition, will meet for an evening of musical improvisation and film. Expect a wild collision of song-form, poetics, free-rock and glossolalic ecstasy.

Thurston Moore is founder in 1980 of NYC rock group Sonic Youth. He records and performs as a solo artist as well and has worked collaboratively with Merce Cunningham, Cecil Taylor, Lydia Lunch, John Zorn and Glenn Branca. He has composed music for films by Olivier Assayas, Gus Van Sant, and Allison Anders. His writing has been published through various imprints. He runs the Ecstatic Peace records + tapes label, edits the Ecstatic Peace Poetry Journal, and is chief editor of the poetry imprint Flowers & Cream. He was on faculty at the 2011 Naropa University summer writing program. He currently records and tours with his group Chelsea Light Moving.

One of the most daring artists of our time, Yoko Ono is having an incredibly busy year in 2013, including her 80th birthday celebration. Her retrospective HALF-A-WIND SHOW is touring to major museums across Germany, Denmark, Austria and Spain. Her most recent dance single, »Hold Me«, reached #1 on the Billboard (US) dance charts. Numerous projects are slated for 2013 including a new PLASTIC ONO BAND album, the reissue of her influential record albums from 1968-1985, a career-spanning art book, Infinite Universe At Dawn, and the curation of the 2013 Meltdown Festival in London.
