The planet Solaris is covered by a viscous ocean, orbited by a red and a blue sun. The ocean is obviously alive, but 700 people have already died in its water while trying to explore it. What does the ocean want? Solaris (1961) is Stanisław Lem’s best-known novel – in it, Lem questions human incapacity in encounters with other life forms.
