Hailu Mergia

After founding ethio jazz in the 70s with fellow musician Mulatu Astatké, Hailu Mergia fled Ethiopia to the USA in 1981 and worked as a taxi driver. Only after the re-release of his music in 2014, Mergia continued his career as one of the most profound musical inventors of our time. After his show at Kampnagel’s Theater der Welt Festival in 2017, Mergia now returns with his first new album in 16 years: »Lala Belu«, a euphoric update of Ethio-Jazz.
