In 1994, Finnish jazz musician Jimi Tenor inadvertently provided the soundtrack for the Love Parade: “Take Me Baby” was the name of the kick-drum hit from Tenor’s solo debut. Tenor, whose main instruments are flute and tenor saxophone, seemed an unlikely candidate to venture into techno. With a musical curiosity open to all directions, he has since created a broad body of work ranging from theater productions at Kampnagel to collaborations with the UMO Jazz Orchestra and Afrobeat albums with Tony Allen. Last year, Tenor recorded a new album with Hamburg-based producer Tobias Levin — featuring a Finnish-Ghanaian band, which is now also accompanying him to the Summer Festival. The album was released on the Hamburg avant-garde label bureau b, which, in addition to releasing classics like FaUSt, is dedicated to young experimental musicians and is presenting another artist this evening: Saeko Killy. Drawing on influences from J-Pop, NDW, and industrial music, the Japanese musician and producer based in Berlin creates a psychedelic musical dream world that “bridges eras and countries” (HHV Mag). The evening will be topped off with DJ sets by bureau b’s Isa Schwarzenberg and Daniel Jahn (NTS Radio, Kiosk Radio).
