For almost 60 years, John Cale has been a radical mastermind of music history. After collaborating with John Cage and La Monte Young, the bassist and violinist founded Velvet Underground in 1965 together with Lou Reed, the forerunner of all punk and indie bands. In the 1970's, Cale became a protagonist of minimal music and was responsible as a producer for albums by The Stooges, Nick Drake or Patti Smith. Since then, John Cale has released 16 studio albums of his own, scored over 30 films and TV shows, created installations at the Venice Biennale, among others, and collaborated with countless young artists (such as, most recently, Kelly Lee Owens, Cate Le Bon and Weyes Blood). After a legendary performance in 2012 and originally already scheduled for July 2022, the grand master of alternative rock returns to Kampnagel in 2023 – presenting "Mercy", his first new studio album in 10 years.
