Herakles is a two-part man. Euripides wrote for him a two-part play. It breaks down in the middle and starts over again as does he.
- Anne Carson

The demigod Herakles is defined by myths of supernatural strength, courage, muscles of steel and masculinity. After twelve glorious labors, in which he strangled lions with his bare hands, outwitted monsters and fought battles, Herakles returns to his family in Thebes as a celebrated hero, leaving devastation in his wake. How can the returning hero deal with the attributions stylizing him as a miraculous superhero since childhood? How can he deal with the memories of his great and terrible deeds? A play about heroes, memories, ageing, and breaking down – about what remains after a hero's accomplished deeds and how to live on.
