Martin Kohlstedt belongs to a younger generation of pianists who are more concerned with the future than with the long tradition of the piano. He has developed his own compositional technique for this, which he calls »modular composing«: Instead of completing pieces compositionally, he focuses on their situational development. Equipped with the joy of experimentation of a jazz musician, Kohlstedt expands the piano with synthesizers and electronics, and shuns the ecstatic club night just as little as the intimate situation of a concert hall. He also regularly composes film music, collaborates with artists such as Sudan Archives or Robag Wruhme, and develops special formats such as a visual concert in a 360° dome for the Reeperbahnfestival 2017. Now the musician from Weimar will play his first concert at Kampnagel, originally announced for March 2021, to present his latest album FLUR live to the Hamburg audience in a special set-up.
