Mandlha

Morfea stands for the in-between world that connects the night with the day, that travels between the gender poles and that is always changing. The night offered trans* women protection and the possibility to walk the streets. In doing so, they shaped the reputation and aesthetics of entire neighbourhoods that later exiled trans*femmes and became nightlife districts as part of gentrification. Trans*people opened up spaces of amusement, which is always an oblivion of hegemonic power structures. This evening is dedicated to the pioneers and their view of the future, which is reflected in the sounds of trans musicians. Futuristic sounds await the audience at Morfea; the evening is both a key and a gateway to a freer world.

Mandhla Ndubiwa The festival will be opened by a voice that incomparably fuses sound and light into a performative experience. Mandhla is a trans-feminine gender non-conforming multimedia artist. She was born and raised in Zimbabwe and currently lives in Berlin. Her distinctive style blends experimental R&B and soul sounds with visual projections and performative dance. Her music deals with the everyday trials that the body of a trans*, enby and femme migrant has to withstand, an everyday experience between love, identity, sex and acceptance. Her passion for visual beauty, for fashion, for music and the art of voguing could already be admired on various stages like the Whole Festival, Pop Kultur, Münchner Kammerspiele, Gropius Bau, Kulturbrauerei and many more. We are very honoured to open the festival with an artist who will reveal to us a world of the timeless and the divine. Her body of a black femme* will be the key and the driving force between the worlds and promises to be an incomparable experience for all.

Billi DeStabl Billi DeStabl already made a name for themselves as a resident of SLOT in Hamburg and proved at their performance at Vogelball and HÖR Berlin that genre and style mixed together create a new whole that can liberate body and mind by moving outside the boundaries. DeStabl stands for the state that is always in flow and never stops, and in the same way we can all expect a set that takes us on a river of sound to a harbour unknown to us.

Tip: Come earlier and watch a performance before the club evening. Either THE MAKING OF PINOCCHIO by Rosana Cade & Ivor MacAskill (20:00) or TRIO – FOR THE BEAUTY OF IT by La Fleur (20:30).
