These were two of the most intense and joyful concerts of the year, which Rufus Wainwright played in September at Kampnagel in front of a reduced audience - despite the occasional international concert business being paralyzed by the pandemic. This visit to Hamburg, scheduled at short notice, was also the only European concert of the dazzling artist, whose work includes two operas, symphonic works, film music, Grammy nominations and nine studio albums. Wainwright is now back with his husband in his home in Los Angeles, in the city where he recorded both his first album and his latest »Unfollow the Rules«. In well over 100 songs, Wainwright has expanded the camp claviature of pop, adding to the glamour of music history with songs that have matured into classics such as »Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk«. Now he is taking advantage of the pandemic break to play all nine studio albums with guitarist Brian Green and pianist Jacob Mann live from his living room in the LA district of Laurel Canyon: a musical retrospective where the audience can join him via live stream in his living room and also vote on cover songs and talk to Rufus Wainwright.
