It took five years for Norwegian pop artist Sandra Kolstad to release her sixth album. Since her debut in 2011, the now 39-year-old quickly became a leading figure in Scandinavian electropop, performing everywhere from Kampnagel (2012) to the Roskilde Festival, while also composing various works for the theater. On her new album SOFT HARD, Kolstad places the piano at the heart of her music, merging classical and electronic worlds—a »fusion of mind and body.« The album opens with the defining single UNLEARNING, where Kolstad initially rises from the pop ashes like a Laurie Anderson phoenix, her voice altered through a vocoder, before transforming an artful piano piece into a full-blown storm of percussion, synthesizers, and trap beats.
