Reading

The poet, musician and translator Sam Zamrik was born in Damascus in 1996 and lives in Berlin. He worked as a band manager and songwriter within the underground music movement New Wave of Syrian Metal. In his poetry collection "Ich bin nicht" (I am not), he presents himself as a lyricist who has lost almost everything, right down to his own identity - and in the process finds his own language to tell of war and flight, homelessness and loneliness, not being there and not being seen.

Concert

Syrian musician and composer Wassim Mukdad combines styles such as East African Tarab and Middle Eastern medieval music with music from other cultures. The oud virtuoso graduated from the Damascus Conservatory of Music and has worked with many ensembles in Syria and Turkey – always with the aim of opening the borders between cultures and working for peace in times of war.
