Rarely has music history felt as present as on the new, 13th studio album from the band A Certain Ratio, founded in Manchester in 1977. Without nostalgia, the post-punk trio, performing in their original lineup, showcases on "It All Comes Down to This" (Mute Records) how a signature sound of funk guitars, Afrobeat drums, and wave synths can continue to evolve even in their 46th year. One can trace the band's journey from their origins in the iconic Factory scene, where their paths crossed with bands like Joy Division, Talking Heads, and Grace Jones. However, more important to the band than their own legendary status is an enthusiasm for the present as they navigate through various styles and moods. The new album spans from defiantly enduring indie anthems to dub-funk pieces and post-punk disco blasts, expertly distilled by producer Dan Carey (Black Midi, Kate Tempest, Sophie Hunger) to their essence of melody and groove. "An infectiously kinetic, richly detailed, timeless affair" (Uncut Magazine).
