This year on two evenings, the ÜBERJAZZ CLUB-EDITION follows once again the festival’s motto »Cutting Edge Music Beyond Genre«, with which also the celebrated Chicago label INTERNATIONAL ANTHEM could be headed. Hence, since 2016, label artists such as Angel Bat Dawid, Ben Lamar Gay, Jamire Williams, Carlos Niño and Makaya McCraven have had their Hamburg debut at ÜBERJAZZ. And with McCraven, one of the main pillars of the label now returns to present his best album to date, "In These Times", with a band on Friday, while guitarist Jeff Parker (Solo), also part of Chicago's post-rock institution Tortoise since 1997, will be in Hamburg for the first time with a solo set on the same evening.

Saturday's guest is John Carroll Kirby, keyboardist, composer and producer from LA, who among other things was significantly involved in the last two Solange albums, has worked with artists like Frank Ocean or Blood Orange and releases fantastic albums of his own on Stones Throw Records. Singer Eddie Chacon also teamed up with Kirby to release »Pleasure, Joy & Happiness« in 2020, a deeply relaxed low-key R&B masterpiece. With a new album in the making, this is the duo’s first Hamburg show. Chacon, by the way, was one half of Charles & Eddie (»Would I Lie To You«) in his younger days, but that's another story. To start the evening, keyboardist and singer Maria Chiara Argirò and her band will perform in Hamburg also for the first time. Since she traded her Roman home for London as a place of residence at the beginning of the decade, she has been shuttling through the scenes there, from UK jazz to electronic to classical music, and is now presenting her album »Forest City«, which has been influenced by artists such as Kelly Lee Owens and John Hopkins.
