The Nestroy Prize-winning community theater guerrilla Nesterval transforms historical material into immersive theater experiences, where the audience moves through scenes and spaces in small groups. Last Summer Festival, Nesterval’s DIE NAMENLOSEN in an old harbor-warehouse was one of the fastest-selling plays, with long waiting lists. For their latest project, A DIRTY FAUST, the Viennese group is now interweaving Goethe’s classic with 80’s dance movies to create a play about the question of physical self-determination in the context of abortion. In Hamburg, the former Seilerstraße elementary school transforms into the Hotel Nesterval for three weeks. Here, the audience is immersed in an experience featuring peculiar guests across 47 rooms. A washed-up hotelier engages in a high-stakes bet with an illusionist, wagering nothing less than the soul of each guest. The three-hour play can take a different course each evening and presents a highly topical subject as an intense theatrical experience. The play is in German language only.

Notes:

  • The event is not barrier-free and participation requires a lot of stair climbing between four floors.
  • It can get warm in the rooms, we recommend bringing your own fan.
  • Water can be purchased at the bar throughout the event. We recommend that you do this immediately after your admission, so shortly before the event begins! Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages can be purchased at the announced times.
  • You should carry cash for drinks – no card payment possible!
  • Large bags and backpacks must be handed in at the free cloakroom. Small handbags are permitted.
