ONE DROP is a speculative summoning, a decolonial dream and an operetta – a great work in every respect that pleasurably takes the time and space to dissect Western theatre tradition. Defying definition and belonging to multiple categories, the work dives into the poetics and politics of relations, creating a performance that reignites connections lost or forgotten. The title of the work refers to two separate frameworks; the one drop rhythm which is a reggae style drum beat as well as to the one drop rule of the Race Separation Act, created in the United States in the early 1900s, according to which a single drop of “Black blood” made a person “Black” despite their appearance. With ONE DROP, the award-winning Finnish-Cameroonian choreographer Sonya Lindfors presents her third work at Kampnagel and continues her artistic series exploring power, representation and Black body politics. Sonya Lindfors is also the artistic director and founding member of UrbanApa, an interdisciplinary and counter-hegemonic art community that provides a platform for new ideas and feminist art practices.

Five Black people in white but bloodstained costumes stand in dynamic poses on a stage in front of a white curtain. They all have eccentric facial expressions and each press one fist into the palm of the other.
