In Harmonia, Unusual Symptoms and Hungarian choreographer Adrienn Hód invite us to explore the human body and its meaning in dance and society anew. Between concentrated explorations of physical diversity, fun-filled exuberance and a healthy dose of self-irony, an ensemble of dancers with and without disabilities questions hierarchies of classical dance, but also the supposedly progressive forms of contemporary dance. Asking for the audience’s undiluted attention, they throw conventional notions of the body overboard and set about playfully realigning our gaze. In 2023 Harmonia was awarded the Rudolf Lábán Prize for the best dance piece in Hungary, and invited to Tanzplattform 2024.

Unusual Symptoms have been the dance company of Theater Bremen since 2012. Originally founded by the French-Algerian choreographer Samir Akika, the ensemble has been working under the artistic direction of Alexandra Morales and Gregor Runge since 2018. Work with renowned and up-and-coming international choreographers and in interdisciplinary constellations characterize their new orientation. Unusual Symptoms work with both house choreographer Samir Akika as well as with choreographers such as Claire Croizé, Faye Driscoll and Adrienn Hód, who more often than not, present their first new works in collaboration with a German-based ensemble here. The company's works are not only presented in Bremen, but are also regularly invited by international festivals and dance houses. Next to the premieres developed in close collaboration with the dancers, Unusual Symptoms develop projects with young performers, exchange formats, and festivals. Unusual Symptoms and Theater Bremen were invited multiple times to the renowned Tanzplattform Deutschland.

We kindly ask all visitors of this event to test themselves for Covid before attending and to wear a mask, if it does not restrict their own accessibility. If you have flu symptoms, please refrain from attending the event.
