Past dates

Lucinda Childs (*1940), one of the most influential choreographers in recent dance history, opens the Summer Festival with an evening of four new pieces. These are the first works she has developed in almost a decade with her Lucinda Childs Dance Company. Created as artistic collaborations with three outstanding artists from visual arts and music, these new works feature contributions by minimal music pioneer Philip Glass, Oscar-winning avant-garde composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, and visual artist Anri Sala. Following the success of the Summer Festival co-production AVAILABLE LIGHT in 2015, this world premiere will feature Lucinda Childs herself on stage and subsequently tour the globe. In addition, video works by Lucinda Childs and Anri Sala will be on display in the exhibition UNTRANQUIL NOW at Hamburger Kunsthalle. Additionally, video installations by Anri Sala will be on display at the Kunsthalle and in the Vorhalle at Kampnagel.

Program:

  • ACTUS: Duet, set to the cantata "Actus Tragicus" (BWV 106) by Johann Sebastian Bach.
  • GERANIUM '64: Solo performance featuring Lucinda Childs, based on GERANIUM (1965) and set to Anri Sala’s new video piece.
  • DISTANT FIGURE: Ensemble piece with music by Philip Glass, featuring Anton Batagov live on piano.
  • TIMELINE: Ensemble piece with music by Hildur Guðnadóttir.
